The AVR 3

What is an AVR 3?

An AVR 3 is a PCB with an Atmel chip on it and is used to provide external programming to your IRD. This board will also have (usually parallel) connector on it which is used to connect to your PC's printer port. Depending on the gender of the connector, it can be inserted directly into your parallel port, or it may need to be connected via cable. Unless modified, the AVR3 does not autoroll and keys will need to be changed as required. This unit cannot be run without a CAM at this time.

The bottom of the AVR3 will have copper contacts similar to a CAM and will communicate with the IRD. An AVR3 can be modified to autoroll by adding a IC256 chip to the setup. Here is an example:

If you are not comfortable with soldering, then you will be better off to purchase and AVR6 with onboard IC256. See the schematic for exact pin out.



How do I use it?

Use this method when just starting out. To deal with key changes, use the Quick Pit method.

BEV/Dish subscription (any level)
2700 IRD (many others work, this is what I'm using)
CAM
AVR 3
Jeepers 2.1.0 w/Quincy pfg file

Directions:

1) get yourself to the point were you have your CAM in IRD and powered up. change to any 
channel and leave it there, and on. (See Quick Pit below for alternate method when 
dealing with key changes only)
2) connect your AVR to parallel port on PC
3) open jeepers
4) under "program" select Quincy's Fix
5) Network: Express Vu (or Dish, depending on what you are testing)
6) Enabler: Married-sub 
7) Board: AVR3
8) CAM type: Express Vu (or Dish, depending on what you are testing)
9) Public key: what ever is active (See #13)
10) Key radio button: whatever is active (See #13)
11) Min tier: 0000
12) Max tier: 7FFF
13) Aux0 and Aux1: whatever the keys are (http://keys.sattech.net) (Click "Get" for auto fill in)
14) IRD#: your IRD from the "info" button on your remote
15) CAM#: your CAM from the "info" button on your remote
16) Time Zone: whatever you're in
17) Zip code: 0
18) Password: default...mine is: AA 7F D0 9F 62 36 50 75
19) Blackout: FF FF FF 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F
20) Full Monty
21) Turn off IRD and remove CAM. Insert CAM into AVR card read slot.
22) Insert AVR and CAM combo
23) Wait till TV screen goes from snow to black to snow again
24) Turn on IRD
25) You should see "Acquiring Satellite Signal", then bang, TV city!
